Telhara is a small municipal council, located in the Akola District of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is situated 28 kilometers west of the Akot Taluka, near Satpuda Parvat. Due to its location, Telhara suffers from extreme weather conditons throughout the year.
According to the history, an extra Assistant Commissioner was assigned at Telhara and had several jurisdiction powers over Jalgaon and Akot Taluks. However, this has now been discontinued, but in 1908 a Bench of Honorary Magistrates were stationed at Telhara again with just over one-fourth jurisdiction over Akot Taluk.
Demographics of TelharaAccording to India Census 2011, Telhara had an urban population of 20,986 and a rural population of 151,373. The average literacy rate over here is 74%, which is higher than the national average of 59.5%. While male literacy is at 80%, female literacy is at just 67%.
Even though there are not many significant religious places over here, but Telhara does have some temples (built in the last 50 years) and an old mosque. Harakhchand Gulabchand, Swetambari Jain, built a Jain temple over here to fulfill his father’s dreams. This temple has become a part of the 24 Tirthankaras of the Jains. The temple building is very striking and colorful with beautiful images.
Telhara is surrounded by several rich markets such as the one at Malegaon, just 4 kilometers away. Another popular market is held Telhara itself on every Sunday. Moreover, during the rest of week, this place becomes a famous cotton market. There is also a police station, hospital, telegraph office, library and few schools over here.
Climate of TelharaDue to its location, Telhara experiences extreme weather conditions. Summers are very hot with temperatures ranging between 32 degree Celsius and 48 degree Celsius. Telhara receives very heavy rainfall with an average precitipation of 792.8 mm per year. Winter season starts from the month of November till early February and can get quite cold with very low temperature (between 3 to 5 degree Celsius).
